You are

Folk is looking for a skilled Senior UX Designer, ideally based in Sydney, who’s passionate about creating user-centred solutions through immersive, people-centered design processes. In this role, you’ll use your design expertise to solve complex problems, collaborate with a cross-functional teams, and ensure the final outcome meets user needs and the client’s business goals.

What you’ll do at Folk:

  • Partner with client teams, content designers, product designers, user interface designers, and developers to turn research into detailed, user-centred designs.
  • Use your knowledge of design practices including research and co-design methods, data analysis, content design, product design to help inform design solutions.
  • Apply HCD and UX methodologies to large and small-scale problems and budgets.
  • Conduct user research and stakeholder consultation using different research methods to bring together user findings and detailed business requirements.
  • Have strong written and verbal skills to present ideas clearly and provide rationale for design decisions. Pay attention to details to ensure consistency and quality across all touchpoints.
  • Transform research findings into key visual assets like user journey maps, personas, and strategy visuals to guide design and project direction.
  • Plan, conduct, and analyse usability tests to iterate and refine design solutions based on user feedback.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior designers, sharing best practices and helping them grow in their roles.
  • Deliver a project’s UX strategy and advocate for a user-centered approach throughout the client’s decision-making processes.
  • Lead design workshops and collaborative sessions with stakeholders to align on project goals, requirements, and design direction.
  • Incorporate accessibility best practices into all design solutions to ensure inclusivity for all users.
  • Use your technical knowledge and experience using design practices and tools, including Figma and Miro to digital design and product outcomes.
  • Use UI kits and design systems to develop high fidelity designs for product ideation and prototypes
  • Prioritise tasks across multiple projects effectively and ensure deadlines are met
  • Keep up with industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating new approaches into design processes and client projects.
  • Maintain an open, collaborative mindset, and actively contribute to a positive and creative studio environment.

  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders, developers, and team members to present ideas, explain design decisions, and articulate user needs.
  • Adapt quickly to new tools, trends, and feedback, always maintaining a focus on the user.
  • Leverage technical skills and knowledge of design tools to create feasible, well-rounded
  • Stay curious and continuously explore, ask questions, and seek to understand why things work the way they do.
  • Prioritise and advocate for users in every design decision, always advocating for their needs and experiences.
  • Lead by example, leveraging strong and clear communication and relationship-building skills to navigate client interactions with confidence.
  • Push for innovative solutions and ultimately work towards creating exceptional outcomes on every engagement
  • A willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new design tools, trends, and methodologies.

We’d love you to have:

  • Good understanding of different qualitative and quantitative research approaches and how best to use and communicate the purpose of these.
  • Experience in analysing and extracting website and internet browser and website search and behaviour data to contribute to research insights
  • Experience of planning and conducting co-design and design research with people with lived experience, and those from diverse and marginalised background.
  • Previous experience working on large digital transformation projects.
  • Good understanding of contemporary digital delivery and management platforms, like CMS
  • Work experience with health and wellbeing, sustainability and climate, education, justice, government and aging sectors or clients
